Our carbon steel blades are constructed from different grades of high quality carbon steel, carefully hand beaten into shape, forged, quenched, differentially heat treated and then tempered before being polished by hand to a mirror sheen.

Carbon steel blades undergo a differential heat treatment process, hardening the edge but leaving the body/spine of the blade soft and flexible. This allows the body to support the tougher edge and also reveals a faint but noticeable temper line. While having a tough edge capable of retaining sharpness, carbon steel blades have a degree of flexibility, able to bend to an extent without any permanent shape change.

Our differentially hardened carbon steel blades have been heat-treated, sharpened, and well-balanced.
