Miao dao is a unique and rare weapon in Chinese martial arts and its true art is taught in obscurity. It was especially prevalent in the Ming dynasty where it was employed successfully in repelling foreign pirates and invaders. While also used on horseback, the miao dao was primarily carried by foot soldiers, favoured as an anti-cavalry weapon. The miao dao's long handle allowed the large weapon to be maneuvered with the dexterity of a single handed weapon and also allowed for excellent power delivery due to its two-handed leverage.
 The miao dao pictured has been modelled accurately to a traditional design with a uniquely designed qing quan blade, where the blade tapers from a thicker shaped spine. This allows for a faster sword with a heavier back, adding to the cutting power and structure of the blade.
The blade has been hand forged and beaten from high quality carbon steel, differentially heat treated, quenched and tempered for optimal edge hardness and overall resilience. The Enlightenment stamp has been engraved onto the blade during forging, our mark of quality approval.
Fittings are shaped from single pieces of thick brass, available either polished or with an antique finish.
The scabbard and handle are made from paudak wood with a full length tang which is inserted into the handle while still hot, branding itself into the wood. A hole has been punched through and a bamboo pin secures the handle and tang together for maximum support.
The miao dao is a unique sword, historically significant and thus collectable, also making it suitable as a gift. It is still a practical sword, however, well balanced and appropriate for martial arts training.
