Made
famous by well known Southern Kung fu arts such Wing
Chun, these butterfly knives (or swords) are common
in many Southern Chinese martial arts.
Favoured for their compact size and easy handling, butterfly knives were originally butcher knives, named after butterflies for their attacking method. When a pair of butterfly knives are slashing, cutting and thrusting from different angles at once, it is as if their enemy was surrounded by flying butterflies, hencetheir deceitfully gentle sounding name. The S-shaped hand guard also allowed for locking and trapping techniques, as well as protecting the hands.
The butterfly knives from the Enlightenment forge are hand made from high quality carbon steel, the blade hardened and differentially heat treated with two shallow blood grooves. The tang extends to the full length of the handle and fitted with a solid brass S-shaped hand guard, making the butterfly knives a robust 2 piece construction.
Comes with a leather case with a belt slit and handle buckle.
Perfect for practical martial arts training but also suitable for display or as a gift.
